Our Story

If all these

could be woven

into paragraphs

of strings of ink

printed on musty

blank sheets;

how would you

want it to be;

Would it be

of how we meet

the only day out of ninety

that wasn’t chilling

to the depths

of our bones and skin

of how spilled coffee and poetry

somehow coalesce into

soulmates and bliss;

Or would it be

the countless nights of

bellows and cries;

Of endless forgiving and trying

to all our vain attempts

of untying the knot

that we so carelessly bind in between;

Would you rather

the sweet beginnings or

the tumultuous parting

to be our story.

When she left,

His last words

were silence;

His fingers cold

to their tips;

Head down

with no gallantry

to even mouth a word

of apology or farewell bid;

His pale shivering skin

once an abode housing the

warmest most comforting heartbeat;

yet now only flounders on

with no meaning;

His veins don’t flow

with the same ardor

nor his vessel still

beat as sanguine;

It was as if

his soul left

after hers did.

Worth it

(for Nathan & Elena)

You asked me

if I was happy

if living this life with you

was worth it;

If giving up my past

adrenaline kind of life

was the right thing;

If hearing mundane

routine day to day stories of yours

was pathetically boring

in comparison to even my

journal writings;

If I ever had the chance again

would I choose my life

and not ours;

Would I choose the voyage

that was made and meant for me

the path I’ve always known of

that wasn’t us

to begin with;

I just want to say

that no matter how big

and sturdy a ship is

she will still need

to set for harbor one day;

Maybe that day

is the day

she realises that

the dreary finite green lands

can give her more in a minute

than the endless ocean ever can in a century.

Lesson

Of the many who left

and the few that stayed

taught me one primal lesson

that I will forever embrace;

That beauty is in the mind

and home is where the heart lies;

To fall in love with ideas

sentiments, dispositions

emotions, consciousness

unconsciousness and

anything intangible

that the mind intrinsically weaves;

go beyond the periphery

to love the beauty within;

And seek refuge in

warm heartbeats

that pulsate along with mine

but never

in chilly hard

empty shells

with no signs of vitality;

Fall in love with the

tangible intangibles

and take abode in the

intangible tangibles;

for touch and beauty

can only satisfy

the sensuality of the skin

but never

the lust of one’s heartstrings.
