Sand

Glistening

golden

blinding;

What we had

seemed

as precious as gold

as imposing as stars

but wait

and take a closer look;

Don’t give in

to superficiality

that easily

place your bare hands

feel it

and you will see;

The shine has ceased

the only stars left are those that

have reached their demise

no pure gold

only fool’s gold

for what we had

all along

was only

a handful of sand;

The perfect deceit

that made us

 all held onto

it like gems;

A disguised deceit

or maybe

a chosen deceit;

But how could we have not known

with the scorching caress

and flimsy embrace

of which all point towards

not gold but sand.
